“The People’s Track to Food Security, Genuine Development and Just Peace (a webinar on war, occupation, and sanctions)” is a response to the marginalization of the affected people by the corporate-dominated UN Food System Summit (UN FSS).
This online event is a response to the UN FSS Track 5 on “building resilience to vulnerabilities, shocks and stress”. It will be held on July 27 at 4pm Amman/ 9am Caracas & Havana / 9pm Manila time/6 pm Karachi time as part of the Global People’s Summit for a Just, Equitable, Healthy and Sustainable Food Systems (GPS).
This event is an opportunity to gather to discuss current conflict-born issues in our food system, a primary driver of global hunger, and illustrate the power of community-generated solutions. Presentations will introduce the UNFSS and GPS, useful and topical governance frameworks, and case studies on themes including the impact of conflict on food production, the use of food as a weapon, the implementation of humanitarian principles, and the relationship between food aid and liberalisation (preliminary agenda attached).
The floor will then be open for you to discuss your experiences and ideas. We invite you to begin thinking now about the questions we will be posing:
What is a manifestation of crisis seen in food systems that is not yet discussed?
What is a solution you have seen in a context of crisis?
What are the main messages related to food systems in times of crisis you wish to be conveyed to the Global People’s Summit and/or the UNFSS?
