The webinar was held on 22 May 2020, with over 1300 participants from 146 countries. The webinar addressed the global status, gaps and multiple benefits of soil biodiversity as a key contributor in sustaining life on this planet. Soils are one of the biggest reservoirs of soil biodiversity, and everything we eat, drink, breathe, the clothes that we wear, and materials that we use, pass through soil & soil biodiversity. The webinar was opened by Ms. Maria Helena Semedo, FAO Deputy Director-General, Climate and Natural Resources, FAO and included two opening addresses from His Excellency Mohammad Hossein Emadi, Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to FAO and Mr. David Cooper, Deputy Executive Secretary, Convention on Biological Diversity. Three keynote presentations were given by Mr. Wim van der Putten (Netherlands Institute of Ecology, The Netherlands), Ms. Daphne Miller (Department of Family Medicine, University of California, USA) and Ms. Monica Kobayashi, FAO/GSP.
