AD HOC GROUP OF of INGOs representatives to Fao in Rome
15 February 2021
Dr. Thanawat Tiensin, CFS Chair and Permanent representative of Thailand to UN-RBA
H.E. Hans Hoogeveen Ambassador of NL and Chair of the CFS- OEWG on Nutrition
Dr QU Dongyu, Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN
The representatives of the International NGOs gathered in the ad Hoc Group at FAO, after this intense period of meetings and dedicated work, they wish to sincerely thank for the pieces of informations and invitations received also through the Civil Society Mechanism.
As long-time Observers, representatives of voluntary social Organizations with different aims, objectives and structures, we highly appreciate the work carried out by CFS as the foremost international and intergovernmental Platform for all stakeholders working together on food security and nutrition and we have carried out constant awareness-raising work for the dissemination of results achieved by Member states (www.ahgingos.org)
Our International NGO.s witness the efforts made by CFS to prepare the recently endorsed VGFS & N as the unique tool for ‘support countries and others in their efforts to eradicate all forms of hunger and malnutrition’. We gladly share the need to work, nurturing the process of reforming the approach to these issues without further neglecting the contributions of science, academia and of those that contribute from the many countries-based realities and groups of partnerships, capable to reach from now on this authoritative platform desired and supported by FAO (and also by other RBAs) to provide the necessary, comprehensive recommendations to all agri-food systems in a coherent and holistic way, to achieve the SDGs.
Promoting transparent and inclusive Governance of food systems at all levels is perfectly compatible with the aims of our International NGOs.
For this reason, we will do even better to encourage our Headquarters to participate nationally and locally and favor the implementation of the UN Decade of Action on Nutrition.
We hope that the coming Food System Summit next September will share the VGFS&N Recommendations in a common language, interpreting the expectations of Civil society and scientific evidence, as well as through the Voluntary Guidelines on Gender Equality.
With sincere appreciation,
Cristina Gorajski Visconti
