Food, a resource between systems and conflicts
Monday 31 May the third afternoon appointment of the webinar cycle organized among others by the Secretariat of State, the Dicastery for Human Development and other Vatican and food security sectors to reflect on the contribution of the Church in the fight against hunger.
“Food for All: Food Conflicts and the Future of Food Systems”. What will kick off in virtual connection at 14.00 on Monday 31 May will be a focus on food inequality in the world and on ways to stem it. Third and last webinar – co-hosted in this case by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences – he finishes composing the mosaic of a reflection started on May 17 with the first appointment entitled “Food for Life: the role of women in the promotion of integral human development ”and followed on May 26 with the second contribution on“ Food Justice: work, innovation and finance at the service of food justice ”.
The webinar cycle was designed in view of the next United Nations Summit on Food Systems in July 2021 and for this Secretariat of State, Permanent Mission of the Holy See to FAO, IFAD and WFP, Dicastery for Human Development and Vatican Commission COVID-19, together with partners working in the field of food security, have mobilized to analyze these issues inspired by Pope Francis ‘Laudato si’ .
The declared objective is to focus on the role of the Church and other actors of the international community on the processes of transformation of food systems in the name of respect for the common home of the planet, and in view of the eradication of hunger. The results of the analysis resulting from the three webinars will be shared at the UN Summit – reads the press release issued at the beginning of the cycle by the Vatican Press Office – “as part of the Summit process to help guide individual and collective action towards a food future that is sustainable, fair and safe “.
