Religions for Peace

Different Faiths, Common Action

Religions for Peace is a rapidly growing global network of affiliated inter-religious councils and groups that harness the power of cooperation among the world’s religious communities to transform conflict, build peace, and advance sustainable development.Today, this network comprises more than 50 national and 4 regional inter-religious structures (Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America). Each is self-led, but also affiliated with Religions for Peace.

At the global level, Religions for Peace is led by a council of senior religious leaders that represents the religious and geographic diversity of the world’s faith communities. This council mandates the Religions for Peace secretariat to operate action programs globally, to facilitate the establishment of new regional and national inter-religious councils and groups, to develop their capacity, and to maintain a dynamic alliance among the network that facilitates the sharing of experiences and the formation of partnerships.

Cooperation among the world’s religious communities has enormous potential to improve conditions for billions of people worldwide. The scale of religious infrastructure in many countries is the most developed and inter-connected social infrastructure in existence, reaching from the smallest village to the capital and beyond.

Religions for Peace was founded in 1970 and it enjoys consultative status with the Economic and Social council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations, with UNESCO and with UNICEF.
