::YUNGA ALERT:: International Youth Day is on 12 August 2016!

The theme of the 2016 International Youth Day is “The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Consumption and Production”. This year’s Day is about achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It focuses on the leading role of young people in ensuring poverty eradication and achieving sustainable development through sustainable consumption and production. Sustainable consumption entails the use of products and services that meet the basic needs of communities while safeguarding the needs of future generations.
International Youth Day gives an opportunity to celebrate young peoples’ energy, imagination and initiatives. Celebrations at the United Nations Headquarters and around the world will recognize the vital contributions young people make to eradicating poverty and achieving sustainable consumption and production.
Organizations and youth interested in organizing activities for International #YouthDay are encouraged to send their plans to mailto:youth@un.org to have their planned activity pinned in the IYD World Map of Events. For some ideas, the IYD activity toolkit provides some examples of what young people can do to celebrate International Youth Day and raise awareness about the theme of the year: Youth Leading Sustainability - #Youth2030.
